Introduction to Digital Photography

Course Fee: €45

This is one-day, hand-on workshop led by artist photographer Karolina Ostrowska, will show how to get the best out from your DSLR camera.

Learn how to use your Digital SLR camera or Mirrorless camera for creative photography. 

Camera and photography basics such as manual function, understanding the light and exposure; manual settings including: Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO; a guide to the principles of better composition; file formats (RAW+JPEG). 

The goal of this workshop is that you will learn all the basic principles of digital photography, how your camera works and how to use it to achieve the images that you want.

You will develop a good understanding of your camera while exploring the characteristic elements of photography: light and shadow, colour and composition.

You will put what you have learned into practice by getting around of Ballina Arts Centre and to shoot photographs under Karolina's guidance. 

What do you need to bring?

Bring your own camera with manual mode, memory card and batteries.

The notes will be made available but it’s a good idea to bring a pen and notepad.

Previous experience is not necessary for this course!

Karolina Ostrowska was born in 1982 in Poland. She studied Cultural and Film Science at the University of Lublin (Poland) and she also studied Web Video Production in Dublin. She took a part at a few photography courses (WSFOTO.ART.PL, St. Kevin’s College Dublin).
She admits that working as an assistant for Marian Schmidt and Tadeusz Rolke as the strongest factors influencing her creative work.
Over the past 14 years her camera has led her on a personal journey through Poland and Ireland. Sometimes her photographs are like a visual poetry and sometimes they give way to documentary photography. Mostly working on personal projects by using both digital and analogue technicks. She had a few solo and a few group exhibitions in Poland and Ireland.
